Diagnosis: Indirect inguinal scrotal hernia

Overview:
Patient hails from Ngo town in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State of Nigeria. Patient is a Christian and resides at Oyorokoto fishing settlement. Patients education level is unknown but he seems to present some special needs.
Family History:
Patient’s mother is deceased but father is alive. Patient is the only surviving son out of 10 born to his mother.

Family Support:
Patient is a driver of a local boat and earns N 2,000.00 per month ($14.00 USD), until he became ill and could not physically withstand the requirements of his occupation. At which time his relatives began to care for him.


Medical History:
Patient was unable to have hernia surgery due to lack of finances. Patient has suffered with this enormous hernia for the last 15 years (1990) but low social status prevented any intervention.
Even as this patient made several attempts to contact his uncle Mr. Dike, a native doctor for help his calls did not produce assistance. They were not willing to offer any assistance to him.


Post-Op
Patient is relatively healthy and presents no post-surgery complications. He is placed on antibiotics and Analgesics

Diagnosis: Left Inguinal Hernia

Medical History:
Patient was unable to have hernia surgery due to lack of finances. Patient has suffered with this hernia for the last 2 years (2003). Lack of financial resources prevented surgery for this patient.

Post-Op
Patient is otherwise healthy and presents no pre- or post-surgery complications. He is placed on antibiotics, Vitamin C and analgesics. He is responding very well.

MALE: 61 Years
Diagnosis: Right side & Abdomen pain due to hernia

Overview:

Patient hails from Ngo Town in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State of Nigeria. Patient resides at Oyorokoto fishing settlement

Social History:
Patient has a history of drinking but quit one year ago. He does not smoke.

Family History:
Patient is an orphan. This patient is the third child of six children.
Family Support:
Patient is a trader who sells clothes and fishing materials. He earns about N 1,000.00 ( $7.00 USD) weekly and takes care of himself.

Religion:
Patient is a Christian. He worships with Greater Evangelism World Crusade Ngo Local Church.

Medical History:
The hernia began to cause pain early this year (2005). The patient had not sought medical attention because according to him the swelling was not large enough to be considered a surgery candidate. Additionally, low income and inability to work after surgery would prevent the idea of an operation.

Post-Op
Patient is otherwise healthy and presents no pre- or post-surgery complications. He is placed on antibiotics, Vitamin C and analgesics. He is responding well with no post-op complaints.
